Walter Campbell, 55, was pulled over near the Main Street Traffic Circle in Flemington by officers who received the shoplifting report from the Liberty Village Polo Ralph Lauren outlet and saw that his vehicle matched the description shortly after 3:05 p.m. on Dec. 28, Flemington Police said.
As the vehicle was stopped, Campbell was found lying down in the back seat pretending to be asleep, police said.
A search of the car turned up stolen items from both Polo Ralph Lauren and Marshalls, police said.
Campbell was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where he allegedly provided officers with a fake name and was found to be wanted out of Burlington County and Philadelphia.
Campbell was charged with hindering apprehension and theft of moveable property. He also faces a theft charge from Raritan Township police.
Campbell was being held at the Hunterdon County Sheriff’s Office.
